  17. <p>    In his time, he has assumed many guises: rock star,
  18. galactic alien, fashion dandy, androgynous poseur. Now, with
  19. former Iggy Poppers Tony and Hunt Sales and guitarist Reeves
  20. Gabrels, the multitalented David Bowie has put together a new
  21. band called Tin Machine, which will play its first live gig this
  22. week at the International Rock Awards in New York City. On its
  23. premier album, the songwriter turned social critic grimly
  24. assails pop-music idols ("blue-suede tuneless wonders"), lashes
  25. out at drug dealers ("may razors slash your main line"), and
  26. warns of a "psycho-time-bomb planet poised to meet its maker."
  27. Tin Machine's new stuff, Bowie promises, "will float your
  28. guppies to the top of the tank."
